Does not seem likely many have compared these two speakers. They look to me like they would be comparable, but of course would sound different. I think one's personal preference as to how they sound would be a more likely determining factor than "sound quality", however that may be defined.
Front ported speakers are recommended if needing to place them very near, far away from or flush to a wall. Since the x-ls speakers are rear ported, they would be best placed an optimal distance from a wall, usually between 1 or 2 feet.
