Well I thought this would be a simple thing to do but for whatever reason it doesn't work.

Since my HTPC can't output proper audio through HDMI I'm forced to go with optical.

HDMI input -> DVD/BD -> HDMI1

Digital input -> DVD/BD -> Optical 1

This should say get your video from HDMI1 and your audio from Optical1, right?

However, when I select DVD/BD I get video but no audio.

What am I missing?

The 507 is capable of using HDMI audio signals. Unless your video card explicitly states it passes audio over HDMI you'll need the optical or coax for sound.

I think the 507 has assignable inputs. Unless you've assigned audio input for the video channel you'll get no audio.

See page 11 in your manual.

As far as I can tell I have hooked everything up correctly, it seems that the 507 may be unable to receive audio from a different source when HDMI is set as the input.

Can anyone verify this?

As a test I hooked it up as stated below and it worked, when I selected CD, but if I reset it as I had before, I only get video.

HDMI input -> DVD/BD -> HDMI1

Digital input -> CD -> Optical 1

See page 43 of your manual - audio inputs are assignable - even for HDMI.
