I currently have a Onkyo SR-501 receiver with Fluance SX-HTB+ but I am in a market for new bookshelf speakers that are black in color. I wanted to know how the Onkyo HTIB 6100 compares to these fluance speakers? I will be using it for tv, movies, music (pop/hip-hop). Any other recommendations for bookshelf black speakers? I see some recommendations for Energy Take 5.0 but I am worried those won't be powerful enough for our room. (our downstairs is one open area which includes living room, dining, and kitchen. How about the energy C-50?


My budget for a speaker set is about $300-$400 without subwoofer

That sounds like a lateral move at best, and probably a downgrade.


I'd save up a little more money for a more substantial upgrade, or just buy one good pair instead of trying to buy a whole package of cheaper speakers.

I have some fluance for the last five years or so and they are still working strong. I would save your cash and upgrade. Look into Magnepan.com and Ascend Acoustics. i am not sure what i will be upgrading to but these are the two I am looking at.
