So I just pulled the trigger on an Onkyo 805.

I currently have a 5.1 speaker setup which I use mainly for movies and gaming.

I see that the 805 is capable of reassigning the unused surround channels to Bi-amp the mains.

I have never bi - amped my speakers so I have a couple of questions:

1) When I am watching a movie will the L/R mains overpower the center channel? It seems to me that it would be mismatched having

[L-260w C-130w R-260w]

2)If so is there a way to 1/2 the power to L/R while in watching movies?

3) Should I only bi-amp if I only want to listen to music?

4)Is it even worth bi-amping at all?

Obviously my speakers are bi-capable and can handle the wattage (Polk RT-16)

Thanks a lot in advance

1. You can level match the speakers after bi-amping.

2. See above.

3. Your choice.

4. I have the Denon 3808ci and did not notice any improvement when bi-amping my Paradigm Studio 60's. Good thing I didn't buy extra cable.

Thanks for the response.

I have some extra speaker wire so I'll bi-amp the mains and give it a go!

(at least until I get 2 more speakers)
