I had a reply from Onkyo/Integra last week the upgrade is not yet out. They said to keep checking the web site. They will be using regional centers for the upgrade.

Thanks Tony.

Are you planning on getting the upgrade?

I love my Onk, but I am unsure as to whether this one is really worth it, given that so little software is available to make use of the new features.

So does that mean you can't perform the upgrade yourself? Is is free to have a regional center do the upgrade?

It is a hardware upgrade so it has to be done at the service center.

I spoke to Lincoln Palmer (the head of customer service for Onkyo) yesterday. He said the upgrade info should be on the web on Friday. The upgrade will be performed by regional service centers only, and the cost of shipping and insurance is included in the cost of the upgrade.

The update WILL contain a fix for the DD dropout problem. Personally I cant wait to upgrade, the THX Surround EX will allow 5.1 material to be converted to 7.1. If they do half as good a job with this as they did on PL II this should be a real treat. I am sure that some of the other new features that are not heavily supported with material now will be in the future and the $200 early incentive goes away the end of August, so if you are at all considering it you should probably think about doing it soon. Boy I really hate having to unhook this baby (I have almost no empty jacks on it) and then hook it all back up again, but I think the upgrade will be worth it.

"Lincoln is a really good guy. I had a problem with my DTR-9.1 and he really went above and beyond to help me out. Glad to see that he gets so involved."

Lincoln is indeed a great guy. Fantastic customer service.

I am not sure of that, the only thing I was told was that it would be included in the upgrade. Perhaps you should contact Onkyo customer service and see if they have a fix which can be done without having to do the upgrade. Good luck

The information to upgrade has been posted on the Onkyo website. You can go there and order it now. They also have an addendum for the owners manual that explains the new features and screens in the GUI. There is a timeline that shows how long it will take to get your upgrade completed. I can't wait.
