This player is apparently a rebadged XA2, and is still available new from some quarters (some at a pricey $899). It has the Reon upscaler, and can bitstream all the new codecs (since it has HDMI 1.3).

... true, but supposedly with some FW tweaks, giving it a slight (and I mean slight) edge. I suppose whether it is worth it depends on your investment into HD-DVD. If you have a substantial library, then I don't think you can do any better. I bought mine post-Warner bomb, and I have absolutely no regrets...

Hi dalidvd,

Head over to the HD-DVD player deal thread. Shoponkyo.com is/was running re-furb specials on this player for between 129 to 199.

Yup, that's what I did yesterday. It shipped today. Cost me $169 incl. shipping.

Looks like they sold out of all of the ones, both new and "refurbished". So, that might be the last of the 805s. Who know? Right now, the guessing game is whether the last of the so-called "refurbished" ones they sold were actually new machines. We'll have to wait until we get the machines in to find out.

It's worth it for what some of us paid for them. I got two @$119 each delivered, and found out they were brand spankin' new, even though they were sold as refurbs.

My wife thinks the 805's look better than the XA2, more sleek. The XA2 is built more solid. I retired one of my XA2's to backup status to make room. No issues after 3 movies. No shutdown bug (knock on wood).

Only downside is that I will need to get an onkyo BR player when it comes out to match.
