Is it any good? I found a great deal on a store demonstrator model for $100 Cdn.

I was about to buy a Denon 2200 but quickly discovered that Denon is about 50% more expensive in Canada, adjusted for exchange.

I have read that the Onkyo DV-S535 is a mid-range player. So I figured its in the same league as the Denon 2200. The major drawback is that it is NOT progressive scan.

How important is progressive scan? Does'nt my Hitachi 46FS500 RPTV take care of the conversion by its own digital circuitry?

Any opinions, comments?

I suppose nobody is familiar with this brand of DVD player.

Nevertheless, I am writing to report that I went ahead and purchased this DVD player.

The back label indicated JAnuary 2000. So obviously an old model. I was expected for it to be inferior to my panasonic S35 prog scan player. However, I was surprised to discover that the image quality to be smoother and less stuttery than my more morder Panasonic. I watched LOTR Return of the King, alot of action and dark scenes. This DVD player handled it like a pro.

What amazes me is that this is not even a progressive scan player.

Craig96, you will find that Onkyo DVD players have a very good build quality than most other brands. Onkyo rivals the likes of Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer and Marantz. Yes, the model of player you have is an old model and does not do prog. scan, but you are correct when you say that the playback quality is great. I think that you got a helluva deal. Enjoy.
