Hey everyone, I'm upgrading from a very old Sony Receiver, CD, Tape, AM/FM Tuner, 2 towers with 2x12" subs + tweeters, 2 rear 5.5(I think), and center with 2 or 3 small speakers. All mid to late 90s stuff, lol.

Anyways, I wanting a newer "lower" level surround sound that will be used for PS3/BluRay, X360, HD Cable and streaming music.

I've kinda narrowed it down to Onkyo HT-S3400 or HT-S3500.

Which set should I pick over the other?

Are they both passive subs?

Thanks!

I have the s3400 purchased last year, and have been pretty happy with it. It does have a passive sub, but it's more than enough.

I also have the s-3200 from 2009 in another room, pretty much identical to the s3400, but with a few less features.

The s3500 must be the newest model out to replace the s3400 eventually. But unless I'm reading the specs wrong on Onkyo's website, it seems the s3500 does not have Audyssey EQ and Volume like the s3400. Plus the S3400 is cheaper.
