Hi Guys

I'm very interested in purchasing this HTIB but the prices here in Canada are RIDICULOUS.

I haven't found anything under $600 which I fund hilarious since Circuit City across the border sells it for $230.

Any Canucks here know where I can purchase one at a reasonable and fair price? Within the Greater Toronto Area Preferably.

Thanks.

i don't know how about Totonto, but here in Montreal we have them all over the place. I bought mine last summer at Brault and Martineau for about 645 or something like this. We also have them at the Centre HI-FI for 650 or something, i don't remember exactly. I'm surprised that the prices haven't gone any lower this year.

Hey Danish....you're right - prices for Onkyo HTIBs in Toronto are outrageous, if you can even find them.

Fortunately, I have relatives in the U.S., so I had them order an Onkyo S790 from Vanns just before Xmas. Price was under $400USD and included nice speaker stands. Had my cousin write me up a receipt selling me the system for $200USD.

Drove down to pick it up (huge box...so I unpacked it, and put it in smaller boxes)At the border, I told them I bought a slightly used system from a relative, worth $200...he just waived me through - no problems. I go to the U.S. (Buffalo and Rochester NY) alot, and never have issues. Only once did I have to pay duty - it was on a Dell PC I bought through family, and with a hand-written receipt for half the true value, I had to pay about $30 CDN in duty.

I guess you need an American friend/relative, or take a chance on driving down to Buffalo/Niagara Falls, buying it at Circuit City, and paying full duty - still muuuuch cheaper than it would be here in the GTA, even with duty, gas and currency exchange factored in.

p.s....the system is amazing.....worth the drive/effort. No HTIB in any price range can touch this system.

Thanks for the reply guys, really helpfull.

I've got some fantastic news especially for those interested in purchasing this system from the states.

The origin of manufacture is Malaysia, as per the Canadian Border folks, this item falls under duty free. The inspector mentioned it had something to do with a negotiated settlement that all items from Malaysia brought into Canada are free of duty!
