I was reading Onkyo's site, and I came upon a fresh press relase for this all new Harddisc CD player with MP3 storage and playback properties. The specs are very exciting. The slim design is really nice too.


Is anyone else excited about this thing? ... The guys at HTF would not reply, so I guess I'm the only one! How will this puppy perform as a CD player, and what the heck is a Fraunhofer IIS MP3 Encoding/Decoding Engine ?

I have to admit that the Fraunhofer IIS decoder is state-of-the-art, but I wish it had a CD burner like the Yamaha CDR-HD1000 , so you can rip to CDs too.


The 1000 got a good review from Sound & Vision.

That Yamaha unit looks really neat, but it'd be even cooler if it had an MP3 encoder/decoder too. Good for making CDR/RW for a CD walkman I would think.
