s7100 refurb vs s7100 new? For the $30 difference I'd get the new one. You get an extra year warranty.

s6100 vs s7100, that's up to you. Do you have the extra money? Which speakers do you like better? Do you need the stands that come with the 7100?

Money is not really the issue. I am spending more that I wanted already but I also like the fact that this receiver and speakers seems like the best bang for the 600-700 bucks. I could never see spending $1000 to $3000 for a reciever like I have seen. I will probably use the stands as the tv is on the wall. I was gonna go for an all in one panny HTIb to match up with my tv but they seemed very limited. I still might just go with an LG HTIB with bluray just for the ease and price. I really only wanted something simple to provide a fuller sound than a panny g10 provides but those were in the 500 to 600 range by themselves so I figured I would just get one of the Onkyos as it seems they have everything in connections and technology that you could want. Have to spend another $100-300 on a bluray but I'm kind of gritting my teeth and just going with it.
thanks for the warranty tip on the 7100 .. I agree with you .. for another $30 bucks its worth it.

I have read that the power is less on the 7100 but I'm not sure if I care or believe that is true.. seems like there are a few differnt sources for the info.. seems like manufacture websites aren't very carefull about their product information these days. Shame since alot of us care and want to know all the features when we buy.

The 7100 has everything that the 6100 has correct.

seems like some newer Onkyo models (5200) have less features than the 6100 or the 7100
Just ordered sunday off newegg, and will be getting it tomorrow.

It is now $649.00 with free shipping, just enter promo code: EMCLVNM26 for the $30 off.
good deal.. The tax kills the deal for me. Can find it for 679 out the door other places.. that is the best I can find right now.. other than a refurbished direct from Onkyo.
Ah I guess that is the benefit of not living in AZ, no tax for newegg purchases.

Here is a side by side for you for the 6100 and 7100:

In the main 6100 thread there is the differences. The speakers are the same I am pretty sure. The 7100 I think has Zone2 (need another amp though) and PLIIx, NEO: 6. 6100 has DD Plus and DTS-HD High resolution audio decoding. 7100 has 1 extra Audio In, s-video in, composite in, and is sirius ready. Really not a huge difference at all. And 7100 has the speaker stands obviously.

I understand what zone2 is but what do you mean you need another amp? I thought you could select another source and play that in the 2 speakers and have the zone 1 use the 5.1??
I got it from reading the Cnet review of the 606 receiver.

The TX-SR606 also has very basic multiroom functionality, allowing you sending line level audio signals to another room (where you'll need another amp). There's no built-in digital or network audio features, but those who are interested in that will be better served with a dedicated device anyway.

I have never set up zone2 so i am not positive.

I just looked at the manual. There is a seperate output on the back for zone 2 speakers. Looks like you can select zone 2 and then a seperate input device and it will output sound to those zone 2 speakers. When this is done the main system drops output to the rear speakers. So it looks like you can do this all from the system. Not sure if I will use it but it might be a nice feature to have just in case.
