Hi guys. I was reading the manual for my Onkyo SKS-HT500 system, and it says that the 8" down firing sub should not be laid on it's side. It doesn't specify why or anything, it just says not to do it. Can any of you speculate why this would be? Could having it on it's side do damage to the speaker? Or is this just strictly for acoustic reasons? I really don't have very much floor space so I'm really hoping leaving it on it's side will be ok.

There nothing that you could damage by laying the sub on its side.


My guess is that there is probably a port on the bottom of the enclosure that may be a little noisy. Aiming the port down to the floor tends to mask the wind noise from a port.


You could accomplish exactly the same thing by scooting the bottom of the sub up against a wall.

I also have the SKS-HT500 and I want if they should be set as Large or Small when configuring them.
