I just bought a JVC 52" DILA and have nothing for surround sound yet and am just starting to look into it.

Well I am just wondering if I should buy this Onkyo SR502 or the SR602 I can get the SR502 for $200 at amazon.com (today special only) and I can get the SR602 for about $100 more, but will it actually make that big of a difference? Do you guys think that I should buy something bigger and badder or should something of this size due? Basically I am going to be watching movies and watching TV.

I just bought the Panasonic S97 DVD Player and have it hooked up with an HDMI cable and sometime I may hook up a HTPC to my TV but I only have one HDMI input there for I can only have one of them plugged in at the same time. I am basically wondering if there are are any receivers that have any HDMI or DVI inputs to them (that are not to expensive). Please let me know what everybody thinks. Thanks!

zac,

what kind of speakers will you be purchasing? i have polk speakers and they sound real good on my 602. with that said, you should go for the 602. i had the 502 before i got my 602 and the difference is amazing. the features list on the 602 is also more impressive and well worth the extra money. i have all seven channels running on mine and couldn't be happier. please advise on your decision and feel free to ask any questions about the 602 if you have any.

good luck,

ken

Interesting comment. Could you elaborate a bit, particularly on the quality of the audio of the 502 versus the 602. Thanks.

mctnn,

the audio seemed to open up more especially on the dynamics. with the 502 the sound seemed to be a little more compressed than that of the 602. i guess the additional wattage and the larger power supply help out in this area. the fact that you can get an extra channel of clean power and more inputs and outputs for an extra 50 dollars makes the 602 a better value.

hope this helps,

ken
