Onkyo SR805 "Secret" 720p menu and 875 speaker question

1775 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  shogunprophet
not sure if this was covered already but has anyone tried the secret 720p upscaling on the 805? I heard it messes with the aspect ratio. I was thinking of getting the 805 but wanted to know if the 720p helped out at all....also I doubt I can afford it but if I consider getting the 875 I have THX speakers that can with the 990THX HTIB and they are 130w speakers... If I hook them up to the 875 Would that damage my speakers? If so will they only damage if I am completely blasting it?

Thank you!!

yes you can access the secret menu, but I left everything as is since all of my inputs are HDMI.

You can run your speakers with a 500 watt amp if you want. Speaker ratings don't really matter. It is better to have too much clean power than too little. Of course you may not be able to push the amp as hard as it can go, but it won't hurt your speakers to have reserves of good, clean power on tap.

but won't enabling the 720p improve the hdmi signal also?

Nope HDMI inputs just get passed through on the 805.
