Hey there,

I recently bought an Onkyo HT-S3100 HTIB System For my bedroom. Im only 16 and quite new to the whole surround sound systems.

I set it all up and it seems to work great (Pictures of my setup below, should I change anything?) I wanted something to replace my 30$ 2.1 system and this caught my eye right away ! Do you think this is decent system for a bedroom ?

Now here is were im confused when im listening to a song with alot of bass the front speakers start to rattle a bit like the bass is coming threw them and not getting pushed to the sub. Now there is settings for all the speakers and I have been playing with them but I have no idea were to start. They have a -12dB to +12dB setting on each speaker including the sub. So could someone help me set these things up to get the best possible sound I can out of this system. Or maybe its my position of the speakers?

Now to listening modes theres so many to list All Ch. Stereo , Full Mono , Neo:6 Cinema , Dolby Digital , Dolby Pro Logic II Movie, Game and Music. There are a few more but they dont use all speakers which should I be using and why ?

Anything else I should change or try ? If you need more info feel free to ask ill be happy to give it to you !

Ps. I am playing Xbox 360 threw system and want good sound for that if possible.

thanks

Thomas Zonneveld.

Not bad for what you have to work with...

May I suggest going to Wal-mart and buying the cheap $20 wall mount speaker brackets that will allow you to put the rear surrounds on the walls behind your normal listening position. Then possibly space your front left\

ight out a little farther from the center channel.

What you want isn't the speaker level as much as setting the crossovers from the speakers to the sub.

You may also want to reposition the sub to get better sound. Usually the farther the sub is away the better it sound to a point.

Try this...put your sub in your chair where you would usually sit to play Xbox or watch movies. Then put on a song with a good bass line. Then walk around your room and stand in various locations and listen. Which ever location the bass sounds best is a good spot to put your sub.

Now all you need to do is upgrade your monitor to say a nice 32" LCD, ditch the computer desk, and run your computer as a more HTPC.

Maybe moving the rears to maybe like a bedside stand and then the fronts to the corners of the desk will give you a better sound stage.

I am not sure on the 3100 about the crossovers. Grabbing the manual to take a look.

Start reading the manual on page 53 (found here) Read over everything carefully. Each page has good info on it. Speaker size can be found here This should help you really dial in your system. For your room size and limitations the 3100 is a pretty nice setup. Much better than like an all in one dvd\\htib setup. The 3100 will really inprove your Halo skills because you will be able to hear people coming and from which direction
