I am settled on one of these two receivers and really had a few concerns from those who may have owned both brands.

My equipment:

KRP600M

JBL Northridge II bookshelf speakers

DMP-BD60

DTV HR23

I like the fact that Onkyo has network connections mostly for the firmware upgrades. Pioneer says I will have to send it in for firmware upgrades on the 23. To be honest I am not as worried about Pio because they didn't even need a firmware update to last years elite.

I do mostly low and moderate volume listening

How does THX Loudness Plus stack up against Audyssey Dynamic Volume?

I have 9" of vertical space in and enclosed cabinet. There are openings in the back and between the bottom and top shelf, but no fans and no interest in installing fans. Onkyo has a history of running hot.

Will this setup work with the Onkyo or am I asking for trouble with overheating?

In all I really am leaning towards Pio. My main concern is low to mid level listening. My current Pio VSX-D711 receiver works well but I find I'm always increasing the volume to hear dialogue in some scenes, and decreasing for loud sound effects. I really want to minimize this with a new receiver.

The THX Loudness isn't really that loud compared to the other modes available on the 807. The A D V has three different settings to lower the volume, pretty cool to play around with.

My receiver sits on an open shelf mounted in the corner of my room with my blu-ray player above it, it gets warm but this is normal I haven't had any problems.

No matter what mode you're listening to, you can go in by the remote and tweak the bass, center, treble, sub-woofer, dynamic volume and a few other things, so dialogue is never a problem, the days of baby sitting the remote from action to dialogue are over with this receiver my friend, I love it.
