I am comparing the Onkyo TX SR-506 576 and 606.

I have a few questions:

1.) Can't Dolby Digital do 640 kbs? So the 506 would be fine for generating the max Dolby Digital has to offer? Except when Blue Rays offer Digital Plus and TrueHD as an option. And if I am cool with 640kbs I am cool with sr506.

2.)What on earth does this mean:

- 1080p capable HDMI Pass Through* (3in/1out)

* separate audio connection is necessary

This is stated on the specs of the TX-SR506

......Could you guys give me an example of how this would apply to my setup of a 5.1 system and a ps3 on a plasma TV?

Thanks,

Hi,

I was also looking at the 506 and the 606 but I choosed the 606 because of the HDMI repeater.

if you choose the 506 (Pass Through), the receiver will need 1 HDMI connection for the video and 1 other (like fiber or something else) for sound

If you choose the 606, the receiver will be able to interpret the sound directly in the HDMI cable so you only need 1 hdmi cable per device(PS3, XBox, Blu-Ray...)

Hope this helps

Thanks that helps a ton! So if I am okay with using optical for my sound needs, then I am okay with the 506

What about Dolby Digital on the 506 can it play the 640kbs or do I need TrueHD or Digital Plus to get that?

Thanks,
