Title pretty much says it all.


I have an Onkyo TX-SR703. It has a mic that I attach to the amp and it measures the response of the room with white noise and then sets the distance and levels for all of the speakers.


But, according to Audyssey's website, the system in this AVR is not Audyssey. So, what is it? And is it as good as (or nearly as good as) Audyssey?

The model is 7 years old..

@ that time Audyssey was just a beginning start-up..

The AVR is not HD and uses a TI DSP, and the room setup S/W is generic from TI..

Before changing careers substantially, I was an electrical engineer. TI DSPs were top of the line back then. But I still don't have any comparison point for trying to understand whether my amps is any good at speaker setup or not.

Without Audyssey ... likely not. Bring home a more current model with Audyssey to demo and you'll know for sure.
