onkyo tx-sr800 vs. tx-sr701

First, is bestpriceaudiovideo.com a reputable dealer? I came across their web site looking for the onkyo tx-sr701, and they advertise it at 599.00 + shipping. This seems to be a great price, Is it? Now here's the rub. I just picked up an open box, display unit, onkyo tx-sr800 at circuit city for 549.00 + tax, total just under 600.00. 18 months no interest with full mfg. warranty. I have 30 days to return the 800 to cc if I decide to go with the 701. Any opinions to help me with this choice would be appreciated! Thanks.

There is no shipping charge on this from bestpriceaudiovideo.com.
The 800 won the receiver of the year award at a hifi magazine sight.

The 701 has Net tune capability which allows you to connect it to a computer in a superior way than through a soundcard (unless your soundcard has been upgraded). You can play all the music available on the internet through something better than your computer speakers.
I believe neither of sr-800 or 701 has the net tune feature. The 800 is last year model, but it is 7.1 surround receiver, the 701 is only 6.1, and both are THX select (Not that I care). But I think 7.1 vs 6.1 is a big deal (at least to me).

Your not in State College are you? Our CC also has a Onkyo 800 open box and I was thinking of getting it. What do you think so far? Are the rear surround channels assignable to a second zone? Thanks.
no I'm not in state college but my daughter is at penn state. I have questions regarding the rear surr/ 2nd zone also. plan to call onkyo to get clarification. If you get an answer 1st. please let me know.

Well I just bought the one from the State College store. LOL It appears that the second zone is assignable to the rear surround channels if not in use otherwise. I am actually in the process of hooking it up right now. Please let me know what answer you get from Onkyo.
my uncle is in the " STATE PENN "

this happens way to many times. sometimes I remember to copy the reply so if it goes into forum limbo I can paste it to recover. didn't take that precaution and I'm pissed!!!!! admin. find and recover my reply!!!!
Probably a month or so ago, I would have jumped on an open box 800 for $700. For $550, don't even think about it. Unless Nettunes is a feature you will use alot. I would much rather have the extra amp myself, although I've heard the new remote on the 701/801 is an upgrade.
