Thanks.

Some things to think about...

the Sony has 6 HDMI inputs (1 more than the Onkyo)

The Sony has a 5 year warranty (3 more than the Onkyo)

If PS3 is the source then the Sony would sync up well with it. The Onkyo has had problems with blue dots with the PS3.

I have never heard the Sony and on AVS, Sony (like Bose), is a dirty word but you might want to think about the things above before purchase.

The Sony ES series is actually very well made.

Just my 2 cents...

good luck.

yes good points on the Sony warranty and features but if I recall it was the DA 5300 or 3300 that was A POS from the get go, major problems breaking down and most owners of those have been replaced by the 5400 series. one thing with Sony if it is a bad unit and unrepairable and still under Warranty they will replace it with the newest best thing
that is a good thing

Thanks for all the info. Reading threads of both the receivers helped me a lot. Finally, I ended with Marantz SR6003 from 6ave.com with Name your price deal for an open box item. Got it for less than what I would have paid for the SR803 or Sony 5300ES.
I am not too worried about SR6003 having only 3 HDMI inputs as I doubt if I will ever use more than Dish Receiver and PS3 in Family Room.
