15-90khz

120hz refresh? I can't remember...

1780x1280 native resolution ILA unit. hmmm.. I think a 1500 watt zenon bulb? I think it was... somewhere around the $75-100K mark.

Wadda ya want for $50, anyway? Somebody get me a ladder... I could make a killing on the rental fees...

I was dumb enough to be the winning bidder on one of these

that was on eBay several months ago. That one ended at six hundred and change.

That seller was right across the river in Jersey so who knows it may

be the same projector.

Luckily (for me) the seller in my auction turned out to be

a total flake so I got suspicious and didn't go through with it.

What you do.. is make some video tape.. with a black background of UFO's.. or a winged demonic character..

Then, you wait till a cloudy day and point it at the sky...

Better yet, a long haired robed individual, smiling, with arms outstretched.. with a benevolent, tolerant smile.... run that puppy into the clouds for a few secs. See what kind of trouble you can get into. Alot of fun could be had for $50, you know.

I just looked and right now (1 day, 14 hrs left) it's still

only $25. If I was close enough to pick it up I would get

in the bidding.

p.s. did you notice that the guy has put two different

photos in the auction and both picture it the

same way? Only on eBay will you find this kind of

creativity! http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

With that ribbed design on the side and the gray and white color

the thing sort of reminds me of Jaws. I'll bet it's about

as big and heavy as a Great White too.

Mark,

I've noticed quite a few errors in Proj Central's spec sheets

for many different projectors. So much so that I no longer

rely on that alone and like to find a second source.

Larry,

That thing has your name on it since it's only a subway trip

away from you. But you better take Hulk Hogan with you to get

it down off the ceiling.

Possible issues, from direct commercial experience.

1) Hot, hot, hot. It's like having your own blast furnace.

2) Loud, very loud. Think of the slightly muted sound of an electric drill.

3) High maintenance. Plan on regular (weekly) tweaking for optimum performance.

4) Yes, it requires 220v, lots of it. Added benefit: You can watch your electric meter spin like a top.

5) Lamps cost a bundle.

6) It's big & heavy & awkward.

7) Parts cost a bigger bundle. Finding someone to service it won't be easy either, as anyone who ever worked on one hates them.

Upside: High resolution, high brightness and you'll be the only one on your block (or continent) to have one.

Hey, Ken,

How many people do you think have a convenient 20 amp 220v outlet at the back of their 40 ft deep theater rm?! I'd be suprised to see this old unreliable tank top $500.

I'd love to have this too, just to fool around with it. But, another issue with these Pjs can be video lag or slow retrace time. I know they made models that had special high speed ILA's to address this.

With eBay I'm convinced that anything is possible, Gary.

I'm always concerned when the seller registered only two

weeks ago and has no track record.

But in this case I imagine a buyer would be able to determine

if it's all legit. I hope if a forum member does buy it that

he will take pictures of the whole ordeal (especially removing

it from the trapeze it's hanging on) so we can all experience it

vicariously.

The three lenses alone might make it worth hauling down. If they are standard mounting sized or possibly retro-ftittable.. imagine what you could do with a quality 'long lens' for DILA in a tough mounting position. Big room, long throw, etc.
