I ordered the Hoya FLD lens for my AE100 but I ordered the 58mm. This is too big isn't it?? $%[email protected]@#$ Is there a correct size lens that will actually screw into the existing lens or is the 52mm the closest you can get?

Some have reported that a 52mm filter will push inside the lens body and be a nice tight fit, but it does not actually screw in and is just a friction fit. The lens appears to be a 55mm thread, but the 55mm Hoya filters will not screw in because the filter threads do not extend deep enough into the lens. Pretty sure a 58mm will NOT fit, sorry, but you could always tape it in place. I will be setting up my IMX lens later this week. 55mm to 67mm step up ring (which I may have to glue to the lens), 67mm Hoya HMC FL-D filter, 67mm to 95mm step up ring, and an IMX lens. It won't be pretty to look at, that's for sure.

Anyone else think that the projector body gets damn hot over the location of the bulb? I may just place a large metal heatsink on the top of the case and see if that helps. The heat does seem to be only in the bulb area though, so maybe I should just forget about it.

I've noticed people mentioning these lenses/filters alot in different threads. What I haven't been able to find is info on what they do and how large the difference between using them and not is.

Anyone care to elaborate? (and if there's somewhere with comparison pics I'd be awfully happy)

Jens-

Check out this site for info about the effects of filters, especially CC filters and the Sony and Sanyo projectors.

I called them first thing this a.m. and canceled my order, no problem but it will take 7-10 days to get the credit put back on my card. Then I turned right around and ordered the 52mm, back in business!!:D

Thanks for the link to smartavtweaks.com - it provides a very good reference for the benefits of using a filter and has clarified my understanding of the issues. One question that I haven't seen answered though is what the relative red green and blue output is from the bulb in the AE100 and therefore what the best filter to use would be. Most people seem to be using the FLD, but is this really the right filter or just people wading in with what is most appropriate for a totally different projector? Are all projector bulbs basically deficient in red light and therefore the same filters will be beneficial to all different models? .. or is it the case that someone needs to do more analysis on the bulb in the AE100? Is it that same bulb as features in different projectors where people have a lot of experience of applying filters? Any answers to any of the questions above would be most helpful

Kevin and Steve, thanks for the info.

I've tried searching in the forums for side by side comparisons of the AE-100 with and without filter but no luck. Hopefully someone will post some pics eventually.

WXDude,

Sorry about the mixup with the filter size. I think u got that size from one of my posts. But like I said, a little scotch tape, and it's not even noticeable.

Anybody else considering the filter: If you've got a 35mm camera, check what size that lens is, and if you don't think u need the filter for the pj or don't like the results, use it on your camera! Mine happened to be a 58mm...fits the camera perfectly ;) even tho it won't be there much.
