I'm in the market for a new TV and have been browsing the local Best Buy's and Sears as well as Amazon for about 25 per day for the past few weeks. Today I spotted a Best Buy open box Samsung PN50A650 for 1070. I imagine I can dig up a 10% coupon somewhere as well.


I've been eyeing LCDs but I really want to stay in the $1000 range for a new set and would be looking at a 46-50" 60hz LCD for that price. I do like the "pop" of LCD but I think I can get a lot more TV with a plasma and I believe that when I get it home and replace my Panasonic rear projection I will be very pleased with the plasma picture. So, is this a deal worth pursuing or should I wait for a good price on a G10 or current year Samsung plasma?

I'd personally skip that. You don't want the A650 since it's last year's model. This year's B550 and B650 has much better blacks. I'd say either go with one of those or a Panasonic S1 or G10. Best Buy has the S1 on sale for $1199.99 and the G10 for $1299.99. They have the Samsung B550 for $1359.99.

The price on the Sammy just dropped today to $1199. The other prices may have changed too so you should check Best Buy's website or your local newspaper ad.

You can get the b650 for $1124 shipped at big river right now, seems like a no-brainer over an open box a650.
