The circuit city near me has a Samsung HL61a750 open box that I can buy for $699...it seems like an amazing ridiculous deal but I'm very wary of buying an open box DLP. they lowered the price because they are trying to get rid of everything open box (a friend of mine works there). I'm not sure how long the TV has been in the store but I know the TVs are on for about 12hrs a day 7 days a week and it has to have been there for months I'm sure. I'm not sure what the life of these TVs are or how hard or expensive it is to replace the bulbs on these TVs. I really can't afford to get the warranty nor do I have very good faith in it.

Any opinions on getting this open box? is this a bad idea?

I could get it brand new for around $1400 would that be a better idea?

I want to get at least a couple of years out of this TV.

what do you guys think?

Since the LED projection system has a life of about 60,000 hours I would not worry. It still has a full manufacturers warranty so I would say get it! It is a fantastic price!

You can check the date it was made by looking at the back of the set. The label with the serial number should also display the date.
