This is a picture comparison between the MPEG2 broadcased in USA @ 1920x1080i and the original VC-1 (WMV-HD ) italian disc released by Medusa encoded @ 1440x1080P; I resized the 1440x816 to 1920x816 with Photoshop for an easier viewing, and because when movie is playing on a full HD display, either on TVs or projectors, the picture is scaled to that resolution

Screenshots taken with Mplayer Classic last version

They are quite similar despite different resolution, they also come from different D-5 sources: MPEG2 comes from Touchstone master while the WMV-HD comes from Cobalt master.

Which one looks better according to your opinion?

If you look at the yellow flowers in the 1st comparison, the Mpeg2 has more pop and is also sharper and detailed.

Since they are both coming from different masters what does it matter which one looks better? You are comparing apples to porcupines.

Where is the digital-download sample, as part of the comparison?

They both look like HD-lite.

I'd say Ultra Lite.
