Open Season, which looks outstanding in the Sony Store Demo is going to get a AVC transfer on a 25gb disc. If I'm not mistaken, this is the first ever AVC title from Sony.

Wow instead of filling up a BD50 needlessly with a HUGE MPEG-2 encode, they get the same quality from a lower bitrate AVC encode on a BD25. This is hopefully a step in the right direction for Sony. Let's see how the PQ is on this one.

I hate to moan but what's with the constant "announcements" of old news? We've known this would be Sony's first AVC for about two weeks!!! Not just this thread but others.

MPEG2 was said to be a temporary solution and they plan to use AVC as their standard. Excellent news to see Open Season getting AVC, can't wait to pop it in, same goes for Casino Royale

I could only assume it would leave a better quality picture if it was to fill up a 50GB disc on AVC.

i would say no, especially with so many low PQ bds that we have seen, i don't think it would be overkill at all. in fact i think it would bode well for every bd to be avc 50gb.
