Saw Sony Pictures' Open Season last week and I went in with really high hopes. It's not that I'm looking for a Pixar-killer, just some good competition once in...never. Sad to say, my hopes were dashed.
OS features the vocal talents that are Ashton Kutcher and Martin Lawrence (both of whom I happen to like). Its stunning animation, coupled with the hope of a good story are what drew me to go see it (Pixar is king at mixing an engaging story with top-notch visuals).
As it turns out, this movie has an uninspiring and fairly unoriginal plot (We saw this first in Madagascar, followed by The Wild). There are giggles, but they're few and far between. Though this one's merely a rental for the little ones, it's gonna look sweet in HD, and hard to resist in that case.
Despite the target on their backside, Pixar remains an elusive 10-point buck. 2.5 out of 5 stars
