Putting together a 5.1 HT setup in a rectangular room (l x w) of (19 x 11ft) it looks like this:

S= speakers; TV= television; = distance from corner to speaker or speaker to speaker; (oooo)= seating position

*NOTE*

0. Kitchen starts at 12ft. from TV.

1. Because of the layout of the room the TV can't be moved.

2. Because of the layout the seating can't be moved.

3. Speakers will be mounted on wall (except ctr.) about 6.5ft up.

4. Room is carpeted.

5. Equip.= DA4ES, Ascend CBM's (front/ctr) HTM's (rear), Hsu VTF2

6. Diagonal distance from center/fronts to seating is approx. 8ft.

Questions:

1. Speaker runs on rears too long (19ft. and 30ft.)?

2. Would it be OK to mount Frt/Ctr's upside down on walls w/ woofers above tweeters (mounts closer to studs)?

3. Any obvious faults?

Thanks to any/all who contribute....:D

1. If you mean too long electrically, not a problem. Use a 14 or 12 ga. wire.

2. Not a problem, and in fact, brings the tweeters closer to ear level.

3. Where to begin...

(Dream-like swirling and harp music...)

My sister has her TV in the corner, but everything else in the room is set up with the front three speakers along the wall, to the right of the TV. Yes, the TV is to the left of the left-front speaker!

She won't listen to me. Want more proof? Bose Lifestyle, and the little twin pivoting speakers. Yikes!

Before she bought the system: "I want mine to sound like yours!"

She wouldn't listen to me: "But, they're so cute, and they sounded good in the store at the mall!"

After I installed them: "Why doesn't it sound like yours?"

Heavy sigh.

(Back to the present...)

If you really can't move the TV or seating, I have no suggestions. The positions are the main faults. The TV should be centered on the wall opposite the kitchen, and the seating facing it.

Compromise, place the sofa diagonally in the middle of the room, facing the TV.

You only show four speakers, so I have to assume the center is in the corner with the TV. The only constructive criticism I can give you is to move the right-rear speaker to the other end of the sofa.

Serious: Find another room or another house. You will not get a decent surround sound stage from your current layout. Sorry.

Larry,

Thanks for the good input...nothing like the ultimate audio upgrade- a new house, now THAT's pursuit of perfection. Anyone else got two cents worth?

If you can't move either the TV or the seating area, there really isn't too much you can do. I agree with Larry that if you could angle the sofa so that it directly faces the TV, that would help, even if it's not in the center of the room which would be ideal given the TV's position. Moreover, Larry's right about moving the surround speakers so that they are on either side of the seating area so that at least the L and R surrounds are firing directly at the viewers in the right orientation.
