Hey guys, I need the opinion of speakers guys. I am learning but I just want the opinions of people who know alot more then me

I use a modded X-Meridian soundcard in analog mode

I was considering these speakers

But now I found these one:

Right now I am reading reviews and asking questions. I considered I would go this way instead of the HT gear route becasue my X-Meridian sounds better then alot of receivers I could afford so I guess the weak link is my speakers.

I think I am gonna go for the Edifier S5.1 but can I get some opinions?

The key to great PC sound starts with the quality of the sound card.

Personally I prefer the dedicated receiver/speaker combination (I'm using an HK receiver with Klipsch speakers). Unfortunately, I have no experience with either of the two systems you are considering.

This is why receivers have Direct Mode, where it doesnt do any processing of the analog signal. receiver/speaker combo all the way....and plus you can always upgrade. With a PC speaker setup, you are stuck with the same sats/sub unless you want to buy an entire setup again

Well my soundcard is good. I just figured I would be using a reciever just as a amp anyway and considering the quality of my soundcards analog capabilities, I figured this card and those speaker would be pretty close to any receiver speaker combo I could afford. I don't have the typs of money it would take to get a setup that could possibly beat the X-Meridian ad those speakers....if this make sense. If you check those edifier S5.1 system they aren't exactly a loew end plastic speaker system. I was wondering what you guys thought of those sets? These would be my speakers until I can afford a reciever and speakers & Sub.

I'm just getting into guitar, and my instructor plays my stuff through a set of Mackie powered studio speakers and it sounds amazing, since I'm an audiophile myself, I had to check in to these and if I were going to go with a set of speakers for my computer that could rival something of a receiver speaker combo, I would go with these hands down.

They cost a few coins though 500.00 on sale, musicians friend sells them, makes the little computer 5.1 speaker setups look & sound like a joke though! A set of mackies and a powerd sub and you would be in heaven.

Put me in the Receiver/Speaker camp as well. I use an inexpensive Sony STR-DE995 and RBH MC series speakers & sub.
