Opinions on my new speaker selection

424 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  davdev
Hello guys, I am new here and a newbie to home theater, I have been reading here and other forums for input. I decided to put together a budget system which consists of :

reciever: pioneer vsx 1014

rear: polk r15

front:please dont laugh but these sound great, Ive had them for years, Dogg digital sl-1100 series

center : polk csi25

subwoofer:Rocket ELT-1 SW-10 Subwoofer

Now I have not heard any of the speaker formentioned other than the dogg digital. Will this setup be o.k. in your opinio. How does the subwoofer sound if any of you have had any experiance? I have another question, I notice people saying "these speakers will match good" .. well what exactly does this mean, and will my speakers match? They are all cherry finish, if that is what you mean, exept the front speakers. TThis will be hooked up for my samsung 6168 dlp, and samsung hi def dvd player and xbox 360..

Thanks in advance for any opinions..

Did you happen to buy the Dogg Digital from some guys in a Van in a parking lot. They are what is known as "White Van Speakers". Google the term or do a search here and you will see what I mean

Matching a speaker means that your front speakers should be as closely matched as possible. This typically means either three of the same exact speaker, or two bookshelfs or towers and the matching center channel speaker from the same manufacturer and line.

Ideally surrounds should match the front speakers as well, but this is more important in multichannel music than for movies.

In short, the Polks and the Doggs will not match well at all.

If you enjoy the sound of the Doggs, then you will LOVE the Polks. If I were you, I would the Polks as your fronts and move the Doggs to the rear.

Watch the Fry (Outpost.com) ads as they often run Polk R50's on sale for under $160.00 a pair, and they would work very well with your CSi25
Hmm... I guess Ill dump the doggs hehe, even if their nice speakrs, Ill move them to my bedroom. I really want this to be a good system. Oh... regarding your question, Yes I did buy them off a guy with a white van for 200 dollars a pair. I had them hooked up long time ago, before my cheap reciever died, but lemme tell ya they sounded good, but if they wont match its a no goo!! for me. Ill just get the R50's as front speakers then. Any thoughts on the choice of subwoofer I made?

Don't know much about that subwoofer, but rockets in general have a pretty good rep, so you should be ok. There are also offerings from SVS, HSU and even Dayton you might want to check out as well. The subwoofer forum should have more info for you.
