I have an Oppo 970-HD with an HP2335 23" monitor for my pc.

The monitor works fine with the pc but it is also intended for

video use and has HDMI, composite, s-video, and component

inputs. The monitor works fine when playing DVDs through the

pc's optical drive using POWER-DVD software and the DVI

connection.

The oppo works fine for audio cd's and sacd disks.

However, when the oppo is used to play dvd's directly into the

monitor ( pc off ) there are strong color tints which vary depending

on the choice of connection. This shows both on the oppo logo with

no disk, and during play. Also, with the HDMI cable, the oppo logo

looks good (no tint) for about 3 seconds and then turns to

multi-colored snow and will not play. Both the oppo and the

monitor have on-screen menus with many options and I have gone

through them extensively with no joy. For the connections that

work, the monitor can display the pixel format and some frequency

that it is sync'ing to - most of the results here do not match any

of the 24 combinations that the monitor docs list as being

recognized - yet they work, except for the color cast and HDMI.

Searching this forum does not seem to find any matching posts.

Ditto for support at oppo and hp.

Does anyone have a clue? Thanks.

That sounds like lack of HDCP on the monitor. There is an unsupported firmware hack for the 970 that removes HDCP: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=832356
