I got my 983 today from Oppo. My main TV is a Pioneer Elite 520 RPTV with component inputs. I have a 980 in my beach home system feeding a new Panasonic Z85 50" plasma. Shouldn't I trade the two Oppos because the Panny plasma will get the benifit of the better HDMI upscaleing of the 983? What should I feed the RPTV through component? 480P or 480i?

A Pioneer 6020 will replace my aging 520 this fall, and I'll switch them back.

I would use the DV-980H on the Pioneer Elite 520 RPTV for the analog component connection. You will be getting no benefit from the DV-983H when using the analog connections, and may introduce some problems in the processes (ex. wrong aspect ratio).


I would use the DV-983H on the Panasonic Z85. When you change to the Pioneer 6020, swap the two players.

Thank you for your advice. That's what I thought. Should I set the 980 on 480i or 480P to feed the 520?

I would try 480p.
