I need an upconverting DVD player that's reliable and has high-quality video on my 720p Toshiba LCD TV. I'm probably NOT upgrading to 1080p anytime soon. The audio goes into analog inputs on an old receiver. I mostly watch commercial movies from the last few years (via netflix). Upper price limit maybe $200.

I wanted an Oppo 980H, but it's too wide (20"). I need something more like 17". (It's in a cabinet with a door; the cabinet insides are plenty wide, but it's accessed through a 17" door, so only the left 17" of the device would be usable.)

Any suggestions? Thanks.

The specs at the Oppo website show the 980H is 16-7/8 " wide

They show the Oppo DV-981HD, is 16.5" wide

Fabulous! Problem solved. Thanks very much.

Amazon: 20 x 14 x 4

Oppo site: 16 7/8 x 10.5 x 2

That's quite a difference! I should have noticed that the Amazon picture doesn't show a machine with a 5:1 aspect ratio.

Amazon size specs looks like that is the size of the shipping box.

If you check the weight... I bet they are listing the shipping weight, not the actual weight of the product itself.
