Just got a Dish Network receiver (722K), new 40" Sharp LED TV, and my amp is an old 5.1 Receiver Sony STR-K750P.


I hooked the Dish receiver to the TV via HDMI. I want to use the amp speakers instead of the tv's...since the tv's are like 10Wx2 with a think a little sub, not great.


Is the best way to connect an optical cable from the Dish receiver to the amp...or optical cable from the TV to the amp...mind you this is just for audio...thanks.

Generally it's best to go from the Dish Receiver to the amp/processor.


Usually, when you try to go through the TV, the TV strips off any surround stuff and just passes through stereo/2-ch signal.

Whoa, you're right...my amp will display whether the audio is Dolby Digital 3/21 or PCM and then the frequency like PCM 48. When I go through the TV I get PCM, when I go straight from the DishNet I get DD. Thanks.
