Hope I am in the right place and if this has been asked before I couldn't find it so I apologize.

I am looking for an inexpensive way to connect my DVR with only an optical (toslink) out and a digital coaxial out to a surround system a friend gave me that has only 6 separate rca inputs (one for each 5.1 channel) no other inputs at all.

i would love for it to remain true 5.1 but would be fine if it simply ends up be stereo (it would be nice for sound sake to keep the sub though).

Anyone know of any inexpensive way to do this?

Toslink and Digital Coax are digital, and your inputs are analog. Not sure if there is an intermediate box that could do that conversion. It may be just as inexpensive to use a lower end A/V receiver...most would have the capability now to accept a digital surround sound signal.

Here's one from digital to stereo analog:

Thanks! Yeah I know it was digital to analog but I was hoping someone knew of something like a cable or a cheap box that would convert the digital (either optical or coax-doesn't matter to me) to the six separate analog channels. Right now I can use the red/white to go into two separate channels and I get sound but no real bass; so basically it sounds like crap.

I realize most people want to up-convert from analog to digital and I am converting down but honestly it's just a bedroom TV and mostly I will be using it as a regular stereo while my company and I are uh...working in that room. So I would really like good sound and the possibility of using it as a mini home theater occasionally but I would be cool with just decent sound quality even if it is simply analog stereo.

But hey really thanks for taking the time to reply! I appreciate it! May whatever God you believe in bless you with the best sound experience of your life!

Head to PartsExpress.com and look for an inexpensive subwoofer with stereo speaker hookups and a crossover. That way, you run the speaker leads into the sub and hook up the speakers to that, splitting the signal and getting the bass you are lacking. That will put you where you want to be, although it won't be surround. Besides, you're already surrounded by pleasure in there and probably don't really need more than that!
