After one week with the LC45 I am very pleased with its performance, especially HD feed from my Comcast cable box.

I am however still a little less than ecstatic with my DVD playback. I have a Sony progressive player with component feed to the AVC box. The picture/color is excellent but I am seeing a little too much edge artifact. The contours are rather soft than sharp and at six feet viewing system I can see that the image is a little bit off.

In contrast movie feeds from HBOHD or MAXHD looks great with great detail and sharpness.

Is the scaling on my DVD player crappy? Do I need a DVD player with DVI or HDMI output with 1080 upconversion? Does the Denon 500-1000$ players make a difference? Does different DVD makes make an impact on picture quality? Would DVDO video processors make a difference?

I think this is a case of the LC45 having "too many" pixels to manage and the DVD 480p input just isn't upto par.

Any input would be appreciated.

Considering you have a giant "Monitor". I'd highly suggest an HTPC as

a DVD solution. You can tweak the PC to give you pixel perfect output and

there are a variety of filters and codecs you can experiment with for

better picture quality.

If you really want to push the limits, there is a program called ffdshow than

can provide further improvements.

Not to mention you can use the HTPC for other apps such as PVR, music jukebox and gaming :)

The input says 480p when I push input then enter for the DVD component. What do you mean "accept film?"
