I am interested in purchasing a Sharp xv-z10000u projector.

Under the specs it says that an optional digital decoder is required. Can anyone help me as to whether this is a real negative to this unit or if it is standard for a Mustang/HD2 Dlp chip projector?

The HDTV decoder they refer to has nothing to do with your projector. It is something you may optionally add to your setup.

The sharp will display a HDTV image from a tuner/decoder.

AFAIK, there are no FP's that ship with a built-in HDTV decoder.

I guess Sharp is just covering their a**es with people that may expect a HDTV tuner to be included in a projector.

It's like saying to play music over these speakers, you will need an amplifier.
