In the UK, the Optoma H30 is about xxxx and the Infocus X1 about xxxxso ok maybe not half price but well on the way!

I only really intend to use the projector for DVD, some video gaming and television there is not HDTV on this side of the Atlantic.

I know that rainbows is a possible issue, but when looking at about a 55 inch ish HP VP 6110 which got a terrible review in a UK magainze for rainbows I saw none! And I`ve looked at it a few times.

So what you think guys? Is the Optoma H30 worth xxx quid more?

It's not twice as good, but from what I understand it gives greater color saturation due to 6 segment color wheel, 4x as well for rainbow elimination (mostly) and has the DDR DLP chip. Many are raving about it's great performance that rivals much more expensive machines. The X1 throws a great image as well and has a superior deinterlacer and a 4000 hr bulb. The downside is 4 segment color wheel running at 2x and hence a greater chance of seeing rainbows. I think the H30 will throw a better image of course, but you will not be dissapointed with the X1 if rainbows are not an issue for you. Give the X1 another star for quality as well, very few exploding bulbs and almost no mechanical issues as far as I have read here. Both are really good bang for the buck. Just how much buck (or quid) is up to you.

H30 throws a better image, much quieter, and the rainbows are much less frequent.

If you are on a tight budget then you could still be happy with the X1, but the quieter/less rainbows was worth the upgrade in my book. Its a bit tougher to justify upgrading from an x1 to an H30 though. Though if you can sell the X1 for a decent price it would be worth it.

I have the H30 and tried the X1 (SP4800). I can tell you that the H30 throws a better picture (and I was amazed by the X1). I saw bright flashes (rainbows) only occasionaly on the SP4800 but have yet to see one on the H30. The picture from the H30 looks very filmlike to me. It's great!
