Brand new to the forum and am hoping to get some suggestions. I am getting ready to purchase my first projector. I have been reading a lot on the Optoma H31 (DLP - 850 ANSI, 3000:1 Contrast, and 854x480, 16:9) and this was pretty much decided on in my price range. However, I just saw a sale on a discontinued Hitachi CP-X340W (LCD, 1500 ANSI, 400:1 Contrast, 1024x768, 16:9) for a very low price.

The Hitachi looked like it was originally a much more expensive projector, but I don't have a feel for which projector is going to do the better job for me. The Hitachi appears to be much brighter (not a concern as I have a very dark room available) but the Contrast Ratio is much lower at 400:1 yet the resolution is much better at 1024x768. Not sure what those things will mean to my home theater. Any suggestions or comments on the differences (DLP vs LCD, Contrast, Resolution, Brightness) would be very helpful.

Thanks,
