Optoma HD20 shadow issues

3925 Views 9 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  CLINT-THE-GREAT

I just got an email from a potential new client that has a Optoma HD20.  This is what it said, "Optoma HD20 projector has a black spot in the middle of the picture. Lamp was replaced in June 2013 as was color wheel. Lamp comes on and so does fan."  Anyone have an idea of what would cause this?  I am going out Monday to look at the bulb to see if there are any stress lines in it.

It sounds like a possible collapsed light tunnel. A lamp will never cause any issues with dark spots or other image issue.

Thanks.  I'll take a look at that too.
This unit apparently has issues with dust in the light path unlike most DLPs Since you stated that the unit has bee disassembled there could also be dust on the DMD

If it looks anything like this, it is what I am dealing with right now. I literally just dissasembled mine about an hour ago and it is the Optical plastic Lens that has melted. I can take a picture of it if you would like. The lens needs to be replaced and should be good as new

That would be great!  Thx!

This was my lens, suspect due to using a non-oem housing as the bulb was. I have now switched the bulb to the original housing and waiting on lens

Do you have a part number for that?

No, i called optoma and they won't just sell you the lens, you have to buy the whole engine module which is $199. I found the lens online for $70, which is still a ripoff if you ask me.
