Hey guys im getting my HD66 hopefully on friday. I hear that the default settings make this projector not look so good, so i am wanting to get a collection of everyones setting and get the most out of it.

as some one else posted he recommended that you turn off brilliant color, up the contrast and lower the brightness.


The blacks look wicked, the colors pop out.

Hey all, thanks for posting these recommended settings, I look forward to trying them out. Currently I'm only playing DVDs from my laptop hooked up to the projector. I don't see the "saturation" and "tint" adjustments, can anyone help me out? Thanks!

saturation and tint is only for component cables. you dont get it for the hdmi cables

Oh, I see. Thanks for the reply. I'm using a VGA cable to my laptop not HDMI, but apparently it's the same end-result. Bummer. Well, I wonder how it will look making all the other adjustments except "saturation" and "tint".

Just an FYI on these settings. I used them as my initial settings, as the defaults are all wrong, and got a very nice picture. I then recalled some recommendations from projector central and decided to try those. For ME in MY setup ( low light with a black widow DIY screen) their settings, which include a low brightness high contrast combo, works better. I get a picture that looks every bit as good as my 52" RP DLP. These settings were later confirmed against a DVD than had some tests on it. Might be worth checking. I have my Brightness on 45 and Contrast on 70. Sharpness is set to 7 and Color Bril. Is set to 3. Color settings are still from this post On my screen it gives a very nice clear and true to life picture.


Prior to making this change I had really thought about returning the 66 for a 20 but not now.

Does those settings include any color gain/bias?


Also, any chance you have the link to that thread/review?

I used the color settings from this thread. Used contrast, and brightness from here .

Thank you, and yes, this setup seems to be working pretty well so far. What are you connecting through... a laptop? gaming console? HDMI? I'm only using a VGA cable hooked up to my laptop. Admittedly the biggest difference in my overall picture was going into the display settings of my Macbook and where I can select a display profile... I chose "Color LCD" over "VGA Display". To be honest, I'm a newbie and stumbled upon this adjustment, but it made a big improvement!

Those settings are working out great except for the YUV color space. It makes the colors look very off and some things overly bright. Is there any reason why?

Has anyone actually use a spectrometer and calibrate with actual equipment to 6500k instead of by eye? If so I would appreciate it if you shared.

The mention of color saturation and tint leads me to believe those settings were set up on an analog video source which in it self could have been off and the warm and pc gamma settings just dont seem right going by the calibrated settings of my hd 65 from projector reviews site and my old hd70...

Wonder if anyone has ever used something like "Avia II: A Guide to Home Theater" and have any settings or suggestions for using it.


I've queued it up from netflix, should be here in a couple days and looking for feedback/suggestions/comments . . .

Optoma is no help with hd66 info!


I am very disappointed at the lousy tech support at Optoma these days. It wasn't like that five years ago when I had a Movietime (actually bought five of them!).


My problem is the HD66. I was trying to calibrate it since I am soon to have the 3D-XL added to it. No matter what I do I can't get a rich picture. It looks rather weak, no punch. The manual says to put it on video and then you get saturation control and tint control. Well, no good because they don't tell you that only works with the composite output. Who would use that with blu ray??!!


I followed settings suggested here on the forum and they give a nice color balance and take away the harsh whites I had driving some controls at max. (What happened to white peaking control that the older projectors had? That helped eliminate that type of noise). But the pic still looks rather weak--like more contrast is needed. It is plenty bright, sharp, etc.


BTW, the Projector Central review said the calibration out of the box is pretty bad (agreed), but they also said they raised the saturation considerably. I can't believe they were using anything other than HDMI!

Is it just my optoma hd66 but there are few features i don't have in my settings menu i.e. Saturation, tint. On the other hand, i have yellow, cyan and magenta in the color settings. Bought my projector around may 2010.

Oh man!!! Thank you guys for this thread.. I used some of these suggestions on my Optoma 350wpro....beautiful! The screen is 91" diag... Wow! We haven't even ceiling mounted the projector yet.

Really helpful post but not sure if the settings are calibrated for HDMI input. Degamma PC and colorspace YUV doesnt seem to be ok. Anyone with different settings?
