In a suite at the Westgate hotel next to the Las Vegas Convention Center, the Optoma UHD60 4K HDR projector (seen above) was on full display. The UHD60 is a lamp-based model utilizing the new 4K/UHD pixel-shifting DMD chip from Texas Instruments, and it will be available in two versions—one with an RGBCY color wheel and the other with an RGBRGB color wheel. It implements HDR10 high dynamic range with a maximum light output of 3000 lumens. Availability is scheduled for the second quarter of this year, and the MSRP will be only $2799.

I saw clips from Life of Pi and Exodus as well as some custom footage shot by Harmonic on an old passenger ship, all from UHD Blu-ray in 4K and HDR on a 120" screen in a pretty dark room. Everything looked excellent, with bright highlights and great shadow detail.
