Origin of the Sammy "Captain Kirk" nickname?

It is an unoffical slang that is getting very popular. I even hear the sales guys saying it now at places. It just for the pedestal series (85?). I looks like the display from the brige of the old enterprise from the old school original Star Trek. When I first saw it, that was the first think I thought of, warp speed Mr. Sulu

It started right here on this forum, it was shortly after it was first revealed in some press announcement pictures last year before CES 2004 I believe.


I don't recall who came up with the name or what the thread was named, but it was first referenced out of jest and simplicity. It was much easier to reference a product by a name versus a part number.

For the longest time I thought that people who talked about the "Kirk" models at Costco were those looking at Kirkland TVs.


I was damned to know that Kirkland makes HDTV RPTVs on top of cheap shoes and clothing.

The earliest that I could find it was in the post from the great Arun Gupta about the Samsung CES 2004 announcements.

It's amazing how many times Captain Kirk from Star Trek, or the AVS member Kirk is mentioned, even when talking about Samsung DLPs.
