whoa, that looks really cool.

"It's true that players had a really hard time to beat the original POP! To soften this a bit, we've included checkpoints, improved controls and added moves such as the last minute grab which helps avoid death caused by one wrong move."

Thats good, I always did find the original pretty frustrating.

Because 3 different companies own the property: Activision owns the rights to do any James Bond games... Rare owns the rights to the game itself... Nintendo may still own the publishing rights to the game...

Let me ask you this, do you really think you might get Microsoft, Activision, and Nintendo to sit down and agree to let Microsoft profit off something without royalty payments in return? Do you think Microsoft will let Activision and Nintendo profit off their work without doing anything? It is practically a stalemate before they start to bargin with each other.

Now, Ubisoft remaking a series it owns the rights to, that doesn't ruffle feathers... because they only need their own permission to do it. And I am glad the game is coming to XBLA, as I wanted to revist the game sometime.
I didnt know those details.

Thanks for the heads up and let down =(

I thought it was RARE's property.

The game itself is, but Nintendo owned Rare when the game was made, and as publisher, they have certain rights to it as well. We don't know exactly what those are though, since the contract was between them. But knowing Nintendo's need to dominate game makers and bend them to Nintendo's will, they probably had a lot of claim to the game itself. When Microsoft got Rare, there was definitely some push and pull on who got what properties out of the sale, so Nintendo might have sold off their rights to Goldeneye then, but we don't know..

Activision got the Bond license afterwards, but their license seems to give them control over all new releases of Bond games... so there are some interesting interactions when doing a re-release of an older Bond game. It seems as if that company needs Activision's blessing to do so.
At least there is a microscopic chance.

It would be a huge hit on xbla.

I really don't see how Goldeneye would hold up if released over the arcade.
Goldeneye has some of the ugliest 3D graphics I've ever seen. It's like those old PC games where only a few hundred polygons with flat shading were available. Even at the time (i.e. when it was brand new), I thought it looked very primitive, but my friends were pretty geeked up on the gameplay. I admit I had a good time playing it, but it's no match for any semi-modern FPS.
