I have always loved this show, but tonight's episode was the best yet. How do the writers come up with this stuff?

Read for yourself - usually the writers post after the shows airs on the west coast, along with several of the actors, producers, etc.

Any "VIP" (someone actually associated with the show) will have their posts in color instead of white.

Most of the names are obvious, some peopel use their real name (Abrams = J.J. Abrams), some use their character's name (Stix = actress who plays Shannon), here are a few others.

Nomad = Damon Lindelholf (sp) co-creator

IthinkI'mgonnahurley = actor who plays Hurley

Fury = David Fury, co-writer of tonight's ep

To me it seems like this show has really "Lost" it (heh  ). It started off great but it seems really disjointed now. It's almost as if the writers/producers never expected the show to do well and basically ran out of ideas very early on, writing themselves into a corner and not knowing how to get out of it.

They start off with the people on the island with a "monster" running around killing people and then it completely disappears for many episodes only to make a quick (but brief) reappearance later on. The occasional polar bear also makes an appearance. Locke and his sidekick find a buried chamber in one episode, start trying to dig it up and now they've completely forgotten about it. I bet that we don't hear anything about the mysterious numbers anymore either. They just throw out a bunch of disjointed situations but never resolve any of them. How long can they expect the audience to sit on the edge of their seats waiting for something (anything!) to be answered.

I want to like this show. I still watch it, but it seems more hacked together each episode.

I agree, its just like alias.

Father: Oh, by the way, you have a sister...

Sister: by the way, I dreamed we would try to kill each other.

Sydney: Oh and I forgot to mention, I already knew that.
Incidentally, did anyone ever notice that CA works like crap on Lost. It frequently overskips into the show by several minutes. :(

Same for me, and sometimes it is hard to notice it has skipped some of the show. ABC also puts the rating in the upper right corner after commerical break, which helps.

It's hard to notice because even without Commercial Advance you feel like you've missed something!

I totally agree with Zabolots on this one. It's not enuf to simply come up with some dazzling mystery. The writers actually have to reveal their glorious / elegant solution or explanation to all of these bizarre phenomena in order to impress me.

That said... I did like the background story on Hurley.
Anyone notice in the episode "...In Translation" (the one that focused on Jin the week before the Hurley episode), there was a brief shot of a television in one scene that showed Hurley getting into a car? (I would guess after he won with the mysterious numbers).

Yes, I couldn't figure out why on Earth Hurley was on Korean TV. Once I found out about his lottery win, it made a little more sense. If you check out this screenshot from the episode, you will notice that there are Korean subtitles. I've read elsewhere that some people have translated these and it reveals some pretty interesting things about Hurley (I don't want to give away any spoilers).
Man, when I do not like a show, I just do not watch it period. I totally get into Lost but missed the TV spot in ....Translation. Thanks I8er.

OK... don't give it away, but can you give us the link?
TV Tome just says the obvious stuff (and that he is in Los Angeles... is this a spoiler?)

Better watch out Pylons. You may end up liking the show and watching it every week! ;)
I think the back stories are the most interesting part of the show. I, for one, am really enjoying the series.
Don't we need somebody saying that they have it all figured out... in every "Lost" thread, that is?

Surely we'll hear someone saying that it's all an alegory. Locke or someone is Jesus or Moses. Or maybe they're all really dead. Or that it's a modern day retelling of the Gilgamesh Epic.
This may sound a bit harsh (i hope you get the "spirit" of what I’m saying and not think I’m flaming), but everyone that thinks Lost is hacked together or think it is losing it and they are introducing things and then forgetting about them are better off just watching Joey or some other show that wraps up in a nice neat little bow each and every week...

Lost is one of those shows that actually has more than one plot line and keeps things interesting by weaving stories together in intricate ways. Sure, it sucks because if you miss an episode you wont be able to quickly catch up, but I don’t believe for a second that they were taken by surprise and are hacking things together…I think they are creating a very interesting world that will unfold at its own pace; Something that is missing in TV – pace. Most shows take off at a frantic pace and don’t develop characters.

The problem with many TV shows is that they are made like Mtv Videos that wrap up quickly and give you very little in the way of an intricate plot or character development. They are usually made up of 2 storylines (A and B) and that is all. It is refreshing to have a show actually takes its time and weave “clues†into it, cover more than one story at a time and arc stories over several episodes (bringing the French woman back after several weeks shows they aren’t afraid to leave something a mystery for a while and then re-visit it for a bit. Yes, each week gives us more questions than answers, but I freaking LOVE that about this show…I missed the Hurley clue, but love that it was there because it shows that the creators were actually thinking at least one episode ahead (sarcasm intended).

I wish I could find the article and perhaps after a little more searching I will.

Anyhow, there was a story (perhaps a few weeks ago) which one of the producers was talking with a reporter. Basically, the story went that J.J. Abrams wrote a roadmap along with a few others for the major plot points (the polar bear, the french woman, the crash, ect). Each will be solved along the way, however, when they'll be solved is another story. The week the week stuff is pretty much up to the writters. The producer joked that they better solve something either by the end of the season or early next season. They even hinted about something else happening soon, but I don't wanna spoil it.

Who knows, they could be blowing smoke up our ....., I really wouldn't put it past anyone in the TV business.

It's a tough thing to actually think too far ahead in the TV business. Not only do you not know how long the show will go on, but you have other real world issues in which you need to contend (like actors leaving). If you want any more proof, check out all the twists that happened in Babylon 5. There was a show meant to go 5 seasons with the main actors that appeared in the original TV movie. Some of them we're never seen again and very few made it through all 5 seasons.
