OT: Where should I go?

995 Views 27 Replies 20 Participants Last post by  dfjkl
I don't post anywhere but here really (ya don't say!).

I spend time online reading Articles at zdnet, google news, slashdot, book reviews on amazon, and read anything my imagination can dig up using google.

I spend time in real life reading LA Times, a few local papers, sometimes NY Times, and Wall Street Journal.

I'm wondering what you others read or do on the net. I need some new ideas.

Someone said they went to DSL reports so i went there and liked it. That's one new place under the belt.

Anyone know any blogs I might be interested in so badger this place a bit less?

I'm pretty good at searching out things, but the paradox is no matter how good you are at searching there's always going to be another side you never thought to look and can only be introduced to you by someone else.

There's always the Sunday moring swap meet over at the Orange Show...

Or Club 215 (if Todd still owns it), but that could get you in more trouble with women in your life than using "but" in a sentence...

=P
Well, I like reading the news at World Net Daily and each week I read my subscription to The Week Magazine
You might want to take a look at the Onion http://www.theonion.com/

Not exactly news of the caliber of the Wall Street Journal, but less depressing in general.

Club 215?! I live 4(?) miles from there. I've never been there because it looks like a rompin place perched up there off the freeway like it is and 5 years ago someone told me it was a gay bar. [place your stupid gay joke here] Most of that time I was pretty sure it wasn't a gay bar, but somehow never went. So what is that place? a titty bar?

But my original intent was: where do you go on the internet to read and post things.. something I might like in particular

For reading, perhaps you might want to consider http://www.newscientist.com

If your taste is a little "geeky," click on FEEDBACK at the bottom of the home page. Or not.

theonion ah yes, a good read, that's some good investigative reporting... they seem to cut the crap out of the news.

That depends if Todd won the lawsuit or not (or if the county got smart and decided to just exempt the place for other reasons that I won't post). So if they gave in or he won - Yes, it's an udder bar. If not - it's nightly swimsuit modeling with a brass pole in the middle of the runway...

The entire story behind that place is ironicly comical, but far too long and sorted to post - if I get a chance to type it up in the next few days I'll PM it to you.

Oh, yeah, my part in all of this - I built the original robotic lighting rigs and the automated computer control systems in there...

If you become [demon] possesed to write it out you got my double-garauntee that I'll read every word of it twice. If it becomes a lean, I understand.

It would be a bit ironic to learn what I know about that place from AVS considering it's been there for years and I've always been near it.

I visit www.************** and www.howardforums.com (Cell Phones) message boards frequently. These are just a couple of the main sites I go to
For entertainment, I like BBSpot and Dave Barry's weblog , and I love the Urban Legends Reference Pages , although I've read everything there and there's only a few minutes worth of new content a day on average, but if it's new to you, dig in!

At Comics.com , I read Pearls Before Swine , Frazz , and Get Fuzzy every day. More edgy than most.

What can I say, I work for the Feds. :)
I'm assuming anyone with a DVR (or 2 or 12) cares as much about TV as I do. The only site I visit every day is Television Without Pity . Don't forget to get your snark on.
Please post more :) I'm checking all of them out. It takes time to check them all out but I don't want to run out.

What about blogs? anyone know any Id like, and also ones that are intellectual stimulating

Im sure others are checking them out too

I like this paper: http://www.thestranger.com/current/index.html

In particular, the Dan Savage column is hilarious. The archives are at: http://www.thestranger.com/archive/savage.html

Also, I like Ask Cecil at the Straight Dope: http://www.straightdope.com/
*ugh* Please tell me this was a joke. I don't think anyone who's old enough to get their driver's license is allowed to post at this site.

Two sites I like for lively discussions are http://forums.dealmac.com/list.html?f=1 and http://www.appleswitcher.com/viewforum.php?f=7 . These are both mac sites, though the first one is about 50% off-topic (wide range of topics) and the second one is about 90% off-topic (mostly political, with a leftie slant but welcoming reasoned debates by righties).
On a lighter note here's some photojournalistic links to flaming pop-tart in toaster experiments:

This isn't a place where I hang out but I thought I'd throw it in.
