I had been using a DTC-100 for the last 2 years. I bought a E86 yesterday. From what I have seen so far, it seems I got better, more consistent OTA reception with my DTC-100. Is E86 OTA reception known to have any problems?
The E86 design was done about the same time as the DTC100 so I would expect its reception capabilities to be about the same. Most other widely available ATSC receivers on the market today have more recent designs so I would expect them to perform better.
If you have it set up with a satellite dish, make sure your zip code is in the Area1 blank of your dish setup. When you leave the Dish Setup area, the guide will be updated and local channels added. DirecTV subscribers get much of their local channel info from the zipcode database. Then go to the local installation menu to do a scan. That will add any channels that are not in the database. After the scan, make sure the channels you want to see are checked. Then check the channels in your channel lists if they are present and unchecked. Some people have had to reboot after the zip code setup for the box to sort things out.
I had the DTC-100 and presently the E86 and the RCA is definitely a "more forgiving" tuner IMO, I never had to move my antenna with the RCA (or my HiPix for that matter), but the E86 makes me move my antenna all the time, it is a fussy tuner IMO, but it still is a great unit, reception is my only issue with the E86 really.
Thanks for the input guys. I am doing a little experimenting. I swapped out my 4228 with my 4221, and for some reason, it seems the E86 likes this antenna a little better. I use these with a 7777 pre-amp and a rotor.
