After several days of heavy usage, I receive "Windows Is Out of Virtual Memory" errors on my HTPC. My system has 4GB of RAM installed.

Should I be tweaking the size of the page file? Should I add more memory?

How big is your page file?

Does the problem go away if you reboot/restart your system?

The page file is system managed and is currently 4.3GB. Yes, the issue is resolved if I reboot the system.

Tweak your page file, or let Windows manage it. You need to be running a 64bit OS for additional memory. You could also use a flash drive if your using Vista to add extra virtual memory.

I have 64-bit Vista, so additional memory is an option.

I have had page file issues in the past, mainly because my harddrive was full and there was no where for the virtual memory to go. A guy I know that works for del said the best thing to do for page file is to put it on another drive other than the OS.

Of course if yer running out of HD space, that prob is obvious.

Placing the swap file in another physical drive increases performance, and your second physical drive better be on a separate IDE channel. It however DOES NOT solve the out-of-mem error.

Your options are

1.) add more ram memory

2.) add another hard drive

or move some data from the drive that the page files is on to another drive.

or point page file to another drive that has lots of free space, like 6gb at least

3.) run less applications at one time

Hope this helps

I agree it appears that the OP may be running an application that does not completly release all of it's memory when it closes which would casuse a memory leak.

Or the op may keep starting up extra additional copies of an application such as Internet Explorer by opening more and more Websites which would cause the same symtoms.

I see most suggestions are, just throw MORE at it!

Memory Leak I tell ya, no matter how much u throw at it, u will run out eventually.

+1.

I've coded (and subsequently debugged) many a memory leak in my day. Adding more RAM only delays the inevitable.

Track the private bytes of your processes, and see which one is leaking over time.

I pretty much only run media center. Maybe an occasional web browser.

Strangely, this issue only started happening when I installed WebGuide. I think its a great program, but it has not been updated since 2007, which is disappointing. Is there a similar program available?

I uninstalled WebGuide about a week ago and I am no longer having memory issues. My memory monitor after about a week of usage is only 1.7GB out of 4GB.

I cannot believe that no one else has developed a web based guide and remote scheduler for media center.
