Sony announced some cool new home-audio products at CES last January, including the STR-DN1080 AV receiver. Today, the company revealed its pricing and availability. "With the release of these devices, Sony continues to provide consumers with the ability to experience immersive sound in their homes," says Yukio Ishikawa, Director of Product Marketing for Home Audio and Video, Sony Electronics . "Through Sony's product innovation, we are thrilled to share unique, new products each year that help consumers harness the latest technology for sound that truly surrounds them."

The STR-DN1080 AV receiver provides support for 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos and DTS:X immersive audio. A feature called Phantom Surround Back creates the illusion of two surround-back speakers for a 7.1.2 soundfield. Sony's DCAC EX combines Advanced DCAC (Digital Cinema Auto Calibration) room correction with Speaker Relocation to reproduce sound as if it were coming from optimally positioned and angled speakers.

Six HDMI 2.0a inputs and two outputs comply with HDCP 2.2 copy protection and support 4K/UHD at 60p 4:4:4. It can also distribute 4K/UHD video and multichannel audio to two different zones simultaneously. And like many Sony products, the STR-DN1080 supports high-res audio, including native DSD (Direct Stream Digital), the format used with SACDs. Other features include USB, Bluetooth, Google Assistant, Spotify Connect, and wireless multi-room capabilities.

The STR-DN1080 will go on pre-sale in April, and delivery is expected in May 2017. The MSRP is $600.
