Excelent performances by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant on this disk. PQ and AQ is much better than any Led Zep disk out there. This has been out for years on VHS and LD (and bootleg DVDs from Brazil made from the LD) but has finally arrived officially on DVD. There is even a 5.1 mix (and DTS for those fans but I always like the DD better) for the DVD that is quite interesting (more agressive than typical remixed stereo). A/R is 4:3.

Definitely worth getting for any Led Zep fans and also for casual fans.

I took notice of your thread. I am a Zepplin fan forsure. Saw them once in Tuscon and it was unfreekinbelievable. I bought one of their dvd's.....lemmme go check on it: "The Song Remains The Same" in concert and beyond. I have to tell you, I have never been so dissapointed in all my avs life. It sucked as far as I am concerned.

Your post (thread) gave me hope. I will check out the new one and hope it is better.

My 9 year olds hit me with an endless wave of nag assault until I broke down and picked this one up for them. The sound quality was really good (excellent DTS track) with the 4:3 video only so so. They liked it but it was quite a change of pace from the amazing 3 DVD live set. But they seemed to like it much more than "Song Remains the Same".

Zeppelin being my favorite band I'll be picking this up. I haven't seen this performance yet but I highly doubt it will be better than 2 disc unseen unheard unearthed dvd they put out last year. Probably the greatest live performance captured on video. If you don't have this one go get it.

It's probably weirder than you think. They've been hardcore fans since they first heard them when they were 7. They have books, T-Shirts, and of course all the CD's and DVD's.

Want to know which guitars Page used in which songs, or the name of Plant's wives and kids, or how many time Bonham's son sat in with the band? They'll be glad to tell you. After 2 years, they still watch the Zep 3 disc DVD at least once a day on their PC's and nag me into submission to play the CD's in the car.

Most of the other kids their age are into rap, but my kids seem to creating their own grade school Zeppelin cult. It's funny to watch.

They're sort of broadening their interests though, one of them is starting to prefer Nine Inch Nails and they also like Audio Slave and Nirvana. But once a Zeppelin fan...

Led Zeppelin was the best hard rock group of all-time, still unequalled in my opinion. Robert Plant one of the 5 best rock and roll singers and Jimmy Page one of the 5 best best rock and roll guitarists. I have never heard or seen this in any format but will look for it now.

I will pick this up.

No mention of the AWESOME "Led Zepplin DVD" that was released last year?

For those that were disappointed with "THe Song Remains The Same". pick up the "Led Zepplin DVD" double set. It shows off this group in all its brilliance. And they were brilliant.....

The No Quarter DVD is a huge upgrade from the previous versions. The audio is remixed with some of the ancillary instruments mixed to the rear, so its more like a reworked DVD-audio. The DTS track is more relaxed than the DD 5.1. One disappointment is the lack of PCM. The video is good, with colors vibrant while still keeping the darker stage atmosphere. I did notice some of the strings on the instruments having a jaggered appearance. Edge enhancement? "THe Rain Song" with the Martin guitar is stellar, worth the 11.99 @ BB. It just reaffirms Zeppelin wasn't just a hard rock band, in fact they used acoustic guitar as much as the Les Paul.

Make no mistake about it, The Song Remains the Same sucks. It sucked in the theater, and in the various times and incarnations it has since appeared in and I have revisited it, it continues to suck. I have only seen a bit of How the West Was Won, but by all accounts it is light years ahead of the earlier mediocrity, and what I saw much closer resembles the effect an early Zep performance made on people (I saw them in 1969 and 1973).

I dunno... you can prettify the resolution in The Song Remains the Same from here to forever, but you are still stuck with lackluster performances and those stupid, Magical Mystery Tour caliber linking filler episodes. I could put up with the filler, but the band just isn't that good in the filmed sequences.

If you're at all into Zep, "How the West Was Won" is just a must get. The audio quality is breathtaking even on the really early stuff. No doubt my (and my kids) most cherished concert DVD of all time.

No Quarter is also very cool with again excellent sound quality. The video is more recent and thus better, but if you don't have either, HTWWW is the definitely the first one to get.

The Song Remains the Same DOES suck even for, and especially for, fans of LZ. Some of the same tracks are also on HTWWW but with better sound, and minus the stupid video effects.

Agree Song remains... really sucks even for a die hard Zep/Bonham fan like me! How the west was won or Led Zep DVD is much better in every way. I'll have to check out NQ. Man, I just placed a DVD order....Thanks.

I'm going to 2nd John on the "Led Zepplin" dvd that was released last year. I haven't seen "How the West Was Won", but I'm very familiar with "The Song Remains the Same" and "No Quarter". The "Led Zepplin" dvd is IMHO the best zep product you can buy.

It's not that you can "see" How the West Was Won - it's a 5.1 DVD-Audio 3 disc set.

I unappropriately called the "Led Zeppelin-Live DVD", How the West Was Won, because they both came out the same day.

I didn't mean to cause confusion over the two. The Live DVD is really brilliant, and the DVD-Audio "How The West Was Won" compliments the "Live DVD" set perfectly.
